About Us
Nestled along the banks of the Delaware River, Barryville United Methodist Church has been a beacon of faith and community for over 150 years. Built in 1872 by early settlers, and rebuilt in the 1930's after a devastating fire, its charming clapboard siding and stained-glass windows stand as a testament to generations of devotion. Today, the church continues to thrive as a hub of activity, hosting weekly worship services, the Barryville Farmers Market, and seasonal celebrations like the beloved Christmas candlelight vigil. Beyond its spiritual mission, UMC also offers a variety of outreach programs, including food collections for the Eldred school backpack program, and a warm relationship with nearby New Hope Manor, a rehab and renewal facility for women. Our popular Thrift Shop raises thousands of dollars each year, every penny of which is donated to local and global needs. For locals and visitors alike, the church embodies the enduring spirit of love, acceptance, faith, and service. All are welcome here.

Our Pastor
Rev. Dr. David C. Lehmkuhl
David Lehmkuhl and his wife, Nishat, have brought new energy and purpose to our church since their arrival. Dr. Lehmkuhl’s inspiring sermons and warm leadership have deepened connections within the congregation, while Nishat’s passion for fellowship has invigorated our times together. Together, they are guiding our church into an exciting new chapter of outreach, growth and unity.
By the way, their name is a lot easier to pronounce than it looks: "LEM-cool."

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
– Galatians 6:9
Message From Our Pastor
A lot of people have been hurt by their church and no longer attend anywhere. If that is you, please try us some Sunday morning. Or, if that is a step too far, maybe make an appointment to speak with me and ask the questions you need to ask. I will do my best to answer them honestly. No sales pitch. No platitudes.
If you are looking for a place that emphasizes the hope and joy we have been given in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ--who cares for all people--come see if our actions match our words.
If you would like to worship with people who seek to love God and neighbor deeply, and who try to be of service to those in need, we'd love to meet you and welcome you.
We are not a perfect church and I am not a perfect pastor. If you are not perfect either, chances are you'll fit right in.
In Christ,
David Lehmkuhl

Community Outreach
At Barryville United Methodist Church, we believe faith comes alive through service. Our outreach programs strive to meet the needs of our neighbors, whether through food drives, volunteer efforts, or supporting local and global missions. Join us in living out Christ’s call to love and serve others, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around us.

Local Food Banks
We partner with local food banks to provide essential groceries to families in need. Through generous donations and dedicated volunteers, we help fight hunger and ensure no one in our community goes without a meal.

Thrift Store
Our church-run thrift store offers affordable clothing, household items, and more, with all proceeds supporting local families and community programs. It’s a place where generosity and sustainability come together to make a difference.

New Hope Ministry
New Hope Manor provides counseling, mentorship, and support services for women facing personal or financial hardships. Many of the residents join us for worship and Bible study. We’re here to offer encouragement and practical help to those seeking a fresh start.

Barryville
Farmer's Market
We proudly host the very popular Barryville Farmer’s Market, connecting local farmers and artisans with the community. It’s a vibrant space for fresh produce, handmade goods, and fellowship with neighbors. And, our church is open in case you'd like to peek inside or cool off on a hot day.

Little Free Library & Book Exchange
The little free library stands as a charming beacon of community and connection. Open year-round, it offers a rotating selection of books for all ages, inviting anyone to take or leave a story. On Saturdays, during the lively Barryville Farmers Market, the library transforms into a bustling book exchange, with additional shelves brimming with free reads for the public. Take a book, leave a book!

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
– Matthew 18:20
UMC Regional Info
As part of the United Methodist Church, our congregation is connected to a global network of believers. There are over 22,000 UM churches in the USA, and thousands more around the world. Locally, we are a part of the Skylands district of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference, which supports ministries, missions, and congregations across America and around the globe. Together, we strive to bring Christ’s love to life in our neighborhoods and beyond through worship, outreach, and service.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is always one of the first to arrive on the scene of a disaster anywhere on the globe, and the very last to leave. Hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, droughts, famines and landslides -- from Superstorm Sandy in New York and New Jersey to drilling freshwater wells in the Sahara -- are all part of UMCOR's everyday ministry.
You can learn more at UMCOR.org.
